The Oriental Culture Festival in Wieliczka

The Oriental Culture Festival of Wieliczka, organised on 24th May 2008 assembled crowds of the Far East culture and art lovers. The event had a form of an open-air festival. A colourful parade where a lion and the dragons were to be seen marched through the streets of our town.As a part of the festival the following workshops were organised:Japanese ceramics, tea brewing, Eastern board games, Chinese and Japanese calligraphy,dance with fans and origami construction. The chief organiser of the Saturday festival was the Wieliczka Youth Sport Club Kung-Fu.


The event was organised under the honourale patronage of then Mayor of Wieliczka, the Wieliczka District Prefect, the ambassadeur of The Chinese People's Republic and has been partly sponsored by the Town Office of the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka.

The first oriental open-air festival in our town assembled hundreds of participants and each of the workshops was attended in crowds.
In the Saline Castle numerous presentations took place concerning the Eastern culture, history,tradition and customs.

Screenings of documentaries related to the countries of the Far East took place.
The youngest participants of the event were invited to a meeting with the Eastern fairytale films.
In the evening a concert of Oriental music and dance began at the Saline Castle - the gathered could see and hear Chinese opera singing, the butoh dance,the Indonesian music as well as an ensemble playing the Korean "samulnori" drums.
