The municipal authorities, bearing in mind the needs of the residents related to the development of the physical culture have started activities aimed at construction of the Sports Centre in Wieliczka.During the last, extraordinary Town Council Session (on 24th July), the councillors passed a resolution authorising the Mayor of the Town and Municipality of Wieliczka to lease for the period of 25 years, a real estate located on the Dog's Hill (Psia Górka) for the purpose of organisation of a sports complex.
The parcel with a total area of 4,5 ha is the property of the National Treasury and is under the perpetual usufruct of the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine joint-stock company.
Construction of a sports complex is anticipated between the years 2008-2012.
The planned investment consists in revitalisation and development of the post-mining areas for the sports and tourism purposes aimed at the local community as well as the Polish and foreign guests, including the disabled tourists.
The project related to revitalization of the post-mining areas in Wieliczka for the sports and tourism purposes ensures formation of a full sports base.
The project anticipates construction of two football fields, one of which shall be a full-size playing field (105x65 m) with a heated lawn and fully illuminated grandstands for some 3 thousand sports fans. A training sports field shall be located near the main sports field. Its dimensions are to be 90x60 m.
The undertaken activities aim at creation of a modern sports - training base,which may aspire to a role of a training centre for the participants of Euro 2012.
