"The Mietniowiacy” Ensemble in France

The qualified ensembles had the chance to present themselves on three stages - in the town, in the market square and in the open-air.

At the end of the festival a world folklore parade took place, observed by the numerously gathered public.

Once again the World Folk Festival has been organised on a grand scale giving the French public a chance to get acquainted with the folklore from almost all over the world.

Performed:American ensembles from Cuba, Mexico, Panama and Chile;Asian ones from South Korea, Mongolia and India, European from Germany, Lithuania, Slovakia, Italy, France, Russia and Poland. The Italians presented the Sicilian folklore,Russia was represented by the Karelian People Ensemble (Karelia is an autonomous republic of the Russian Federation), while France was represented by folk ensembles from two regions - Alsatia and Brittany.

During the festival, the "Mietniowiacy" Ensemble performed fifteen times, presenting three Cracow programs.

There were many a conversation concerning Poland and Wieliczka. The festival guests were clearly intrigued by the very energetic, colourful Polish folk dance. The performances by "Mietniowiacy" met with great interest of the public; the ensemble received invitations for the next year to the sunny Italy as well as the Southern France.

During the breaks inbetween the festival performances,the young people from the "Mietniowiacy" Ensemble initiated various games - among others the well-known in Poland "embroidered handkerchief". Kisses and kneeling on the handkerchief won everyone's sympathy, including the civic guards!

"Mietniowiacy", being a National ensemble, proudly represented Poland as well as Wieliczka on the international stage.
