On Sunday the Bell Orchestra of the Christian Elżbieta Szilagyi Primary School from Veszprem in Hungary has provided a musical setting to the afternoon church service celebrated in the St.Klemens church in Wieliczka.
After the liturgy's end the guests from Hungary presented an extremely original concert of church bell music. The numerously gathered public had an opportunity to listen to works by: Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Pachelbel, Georg Friedrich Haendel,Feliks Nowowiejski.
The concert has been organised by the Culture and Tourism Centre of Wieliczka.
The ensemble has started its activity in 2004 with performances during various school celebrations with the tuned hand bells.
Such were the beginnings - then the performances during church and civic events came along as well.
The repertoire is mainly composed of pieces by the composers of the Baroque period, although they also perform modern works composed for the bells especially.Last year the orchestra, thanks to the subsidy provided by the episcopal office of the Veszprem archdiocese, the local businessmen and the school where the orchestra functions was able to afford new instruments, the sound of which is really moving.
The ensemble's director is Albertine Balogh Marta, vocal and history teacher in the Elżbieta Szilagyi school.
A bell orchestra is an extremely original and rare musical form.It calls for a great precision in the area of synchronisation of the sounds of particular bells. The beautiful performance we had the chance to witness on Sunday in the St.Klemens church is the result of long training of the young artists from Hungary. At the end of the concert the guests from Veszprem performed, to great joy and surprise of the gathered, the traditional Polish "Rota".
