Bergkamen is one of the first partner towns Wieliczka has had. The over 13-years-long cooperation has resulted in many a common project.
On the German part, it is Dieter Treeck,who is the many years’ coordinator and a person of merit in this field. This week he’s visited Wieliczka yet another time.
He was accompanied by the new director of the Department of Culture, Simone Schmidt-Apel, for whom it was the very first visit to the salt town.
The German delegation has discussed with the vice-mayor Henryk Gawor the projects related to the ceremonial appointment of the Ruhr Area as the Cultural Capital of Europe in the year 2010.
Simone Schmidt - Apel also had the chance to get acquainted with the activity of the cultural institutions of Wieliczka: The First Degree Music School, The Culture and Tourism Centre and the District and Civic Public Library. The director of the Music School, Izabela Szota presented the guests with the two-years-long history of the school and the numerous achievements of its pupils.
In the Culture and Tourism Centre the German delegation learned about the classes conducted by this institution and had the chance to view the temporary expositions.
The last visit took place in the District and Civic Public Library, where the director of the institution, Agata Czarnota-Bajorek presented an outline concerning the functioning of the library and its plans for the future.
Certainly the programme of the visit of the German delegation could not fall short of sightseeing of the “Wieliczka” Salt Mine. Simone Schmidt -Apel was thrilled by the saline underground. She also had the chance to visit the St.Sebastian church dating to 16th century, located on the Wooden Architecture route.
